Got them baby blues?

My dear friend, Jessica, is having a rough week at home, and yes, it’s only Monday.  Here’s what’s happening:

My family, circa 1980

Good times.  Remember when those ol’ time photos were so popular?  Well, this is the only family portrait I have.  My mom passed away in 1981, and this is how I remember her in my mind.  I was about 6 in this photo, and my sister was 4.  My dad had dark hair.

Oops.  The dog farted.

I finally found a blog theme that relaxes me just by looking at it.  Maybe this will encourage me to write a little more this winter.

New news!

I have gift card designs featured at JessicaSprague.com.  You can now give someone the gift of Photoshop Goodness.  Plus, being the lonely Jew, the lonely Jew, in scrapping, made it easier for me to design a Hanukkah themed card.

You know you want to look!  Click me!

But wait!  There’s more!

I am also an associate card designer at PaperLocket.com.  If you want to see what else I’ve been up to click here.

I have two cards featured, but I get to design with any style based on what the customer likes.  Thanks again to Jessica for thinking of me when the founder (and amazingly creative designer), Wendy, was looking for some extra help this season.

If you want to check out the links, then do.  If you don’t, then don’t.  (Anna Schneider, 2008)

Either way, take a little rest and come to the islands with me mon.

Why do you love your family?

This question was asked of all of the kids in my son’s Cub Scout den.  My personal favorites:

“They pulled me out of the toilet when I fell in.”

“They don’t kill me.”

Yup, things to be thankful for.

1st grade romance.

My son told me a “secret” today.  He is now his friend M’s ex-boyfriend.

He didn’t seem too upset over it.

Conferences.

DJ was asked to add some items to his “portfolio” of school work.  We added a couple of items that were very good work, and a couple that are items that were challenging for him.  The recent challenging one was his math worksheets.  Then, I received a note asking if he wanted to participate in the Math Pentathalon.  It was described as an activity to make math fun and is done during recess one day per week.

I interpreted this as “Your kid needs help in math and isn’t doing very well”.  Then, my friend who works at the school asked, “How do you feel about DJ being in the Math Pentathalon?”.  I told her I wasn’t sure.  She said, “It’s awesome!”  Oh.  Turns out, this is for the kids who are good at math, and are hand-selected by the teachers.  Wasn’t I surprised!

He is actually getting better every week with his worksheets.  He has made steady progress each time, no setbacks.  Great job, DJ!

I love you too!

For just once…

I would like to get through the day without my daughter screaming and melting down on me for no apparent reason.

I would like my son to eat something I eat without crying over having to take three bites of steak/chicken/vegetable.

I would like no whining.

I want to no longer be the personal butt wiper of said children.

I would like to live in a warmer climate year-round.

Just one day?

The Tooth Fairy

Author: sweetmollymac  //  Category: Uncategorized

She arrived sometime while DJ was sleeping.  He awoke from his slumber at 4:00 a.m. EST to check his tooth fairy pillow.  There was $5.00 in it.

When I was a kid, the tooth fairy left $1.00.  Inflation stinks.

At 4:30 a.m., he asked if he could go downstairs because he was too excited to sleep.  I said ok, just keep the sound down on the TV.  When I went downstairs at 7:00 a.m., he was still awake and ready to go to school.  No drowsiness in his eyes.

Anna was excited for him too, but had her morning meltdown right on schedule.  She is adamant about refusing to wear a coat in 30 degree weather.  I told Brad to put her in the car without shoes and a coat, and she would probably change her mind when she arrived at nursery school.

So far, I have managed to avoid laundry successfully.

P.S.: DJ received his Bobcat badge for Cub Scouts last night.  He knows his pledge by heart.

Homework.

Lost.

Lost.

“Is the worst thing EVER!” according to my son.  This is first grade.  I shudder to think what the next few years will bring.

One the other hand, he was selected to be on the Math Pentathalon team by his teacher.  I was told this means he does well at math.  Based on his reaction to homework- math, spelling, and reading, this came as a surprise to me.

Some good news about school today:  DJ lost his top right tooth today!  He is thrilled that the tooth fairy is going to visit tonight.  He wants to buy a Nintendo DS with the money, because if he gets $5.00, then he can buy anything that is $5.00 or MORE.

I had to break the news that when you have a certain amount of money, you can only buy something that cost the same amount or LESS.  Bummer.

Today’s Story.

Spent the day at home with Anna.  Her advice “If I do, I do.  If I don’t, I don’t”.

Did laundry.  Shocker.
Straightened up.
Answered questions on the SIH forum.
Checked emails.
Had a shale for breakfast, and another for lunch.
Anna had mac n cheese.

Anna’s new winter wear came.  She wore it all indoors for an hour, then when it was time to go outside to get DJ, she refused to wear a coat in 40 degree weather.  Whatever (as Anna would say).
•    LLBean coat, snow pants, boots, mittens, and a hat- in hot pink.
o    Funny: When ordering, Anna said “I want red.  Red’s my favorite color.”No red except for boys.  I showed her pinks, because until a minute ago, her favorite color was pink.

She said no.

I clicked on a different page, then back.

“I want that one.”  (It’s pink & she loves it)

•    DJ got the same a few days ago in dark blue.

Got DJ & forced them to go to Hiller’s with me to get spaghetti.  “I never get to do what I want!” is the chorus from the backseat.   Oh really?  What is something you want to do?  “I don’t know.” Replies DJ.

Came home and cooked chicken spaghetti.  Can’t spell catchatoray.

The kids actually ate plain spaghetti and the peas,  Well three bites of peas.
I hope they know when they’re old that I tried to get them to eat healthy food, and don’t blame their poor eating habits on me.  I am trying people.

DJ went to bed for the second night by himself.  He cried something fierce last night, because he was afraid he was going to be kidnapped.  I let him know all of the ways he is safe in our home.
•    We have locked all the doors and windows.
•    We live in a very safe neighborhood with neighbors who watch out for each other.
•    We have an alarm system.
•    #1- we have a big dog that barks fiercely the moment someone steps on the porch.  I also told him that Buckus scares away any bad people.  It’s true.
Anna went to bed screaming at the top of her lungs.  After a while of fit-pitching and foaming at the mouth, she decided to settle down.  I rubbed her back for a minute then laid on the floor.  She was out cold in two minutes.  Why don’t kids get that sleeping is a good thing?

After they went to bed, I started checking forums and emails again.  Drank two cups of coffee, now I really have to pee.
